Reviews of top spanish sherry wines
INTRODUCTION
The Spanish wine scene is
overwhelming. Thousands of interesting wines, some of them among the
best in the world. I taste 400 of them every year. Most are good, a few
unforgettable. I started this unbiased review to share my best
discoveries with the world. I taste at the Spanish Wine Tasting Association and run
The Old Madrid Tapas & Wine
Adventure.
Osborne
Solera PΔP Palo Cortado AbocadoVORS
Baffling complexity Caramelized
almonds, cedar, tobacco and spices. Never-ending finish in time and
depth. Subtle and very pleasant sweetness.
Osborne Solera
BC 200 God Save
the Queen! A moving journey into the luxury
and elegance of XIX century Sherry British aristocracy. Again subtle
and very pleasant sweetness.
La Bota de
Oloroso Viejísimo (nº14) World
Heritage Wine One of those wines you feel lucky to have
tasted. 600 bottles and that's it. Hazelnuts, aromatic woods, orange
peel and baker's shop. Taste bud heaven, intense, gentle and
looooong.
PX
Tradicion V.O.S. Master
PieceThis is what happens when an enologist with a
chemistry degree and 30 years experience is given unlimited resources.
José María Quirós has come up with a Pedro Ximenez that is going to
take me a lifetime to forget.
Manzanilla Pasada en Rama Aurora
Different This pale Sherry is not like the ones
you know: Tio Pepe, fino La Ina, San León etc. due to the fact that it
is NOT brutally filtered and treated like the rest.
There is a small amount of sediment (probably la flor") floating.
The nose is of a petrol by-product, burnt rubber and nail polish,
all these are normal in a long aged paled sherry (about 9 years) but
what is different is the aroma of fresh olives behind, unique.
Tasty and expresive, stunning after taste. The texture is also
different, the wine is oily compared to their water-like brothers.
Amontillado de Perez Barquero best
value ever! Deep orange colour.
Complex fragrance of vanilla, raising and coffe. Flavor explosion on
the palate, hazelnuts and raising. Never ending finish. I can not think
of a better amontillado for that price.
